Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Posted on July 27, 2017August 8, 2020

This was to be our last day, so we wanted it to be more relaxing. We decided to end at the Rijksmuseum, and so we decided on a leisurely stroll through the shopping streets to get there. We started walking along the Singel to Dam Square, then went into Kalverstraat. This is the ultimate shopping street. The girls were in heaven. Each shop had clothes for younger people, and they had a ball trying things on.

Pe had heard of a really nice french fries outlet near Kalvertoren, called Vlaams Friteshuis Vleminckx. We found it and had our street food lunch.

We then went into Kalvertoren, a shopping centre that was being renovated. However, in the middle there is a glass and steel shaft leading up to a roof top bar called Blue. We went up to the top and had a drink and enjoyed the amazing scenery.

When we were recovered, we continued our walk. We found a gelateria, Dolce and Gelato, that had nutella crepes and churros. We couldn’t resist.

We headed up Leidsestraat to the Singelgracht, then crossed over the canal, passed the entrance to Vondelpark and headed to the Rijksmuseum. It was now after 3pm and the crowds had gone, so we enjoyed nearly two hours in this amazing museum. In my opinion, only the Prado in Madrid matches it. the Rembrandts and Vermeers are just beautiful.

The library in the corner was what Pe had been waiting for, and she was not disappointed.
We finished the day with some more photos near the I Amsterdam sign then caught an Uber back to the hotel.

It was our last night, so we went to a cafe near our hotel, Koepelcafe. The food was simple, but very nice. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine to celebrate, then headed back to our rooms to pack. Tomorrow was going to be a long day!
