Today was to be a more relaxing day. We took the short one hour train trip to Varenna on Lake Como. From there, we walked down to the jetty and caught the ferry across to Menaggio. What stunning scenery!
We had a coffee on a balcony of Ristorante La Conca overlooking the lake, then walked around town for a short while before catching the next ferry to Bellagio. This was even more stunning.
We started off with lunch at Hotel Excelsior Splendide, right on the water near the jetty. It was a wonderful meal. We then walked up to the top of the town and then along the waterfront. Bellagio is stunning.
After a few hours wandering the streets of Bellagio, we headed back to Varenna on our third ferry trip of the day. At Varenna we walked along the water to Villa Monastero, a stunning building and gardens right on the lake. It was simply beautiful.
We didn’t get back to Milan till nearly 6pm, after a surprising and really enjoyable day. We completed our last day in Milan with a nice dinner at a nearby restaurant, Osteria Italiana. It was an enjoyable meal to complete an enjoyable day. We finally headed back to our hotel to pack for Switzerland.
