Venice, Verona, Italy

Posted on July 11, 2017August 8, 2020

Today we set off early to head to Venice. We arrived at about 10 am and started walking toward St Mark’s square. The girls were all amazed – they never expected it to be so beautiful.

As we were walking, we came across a gondolier who was free, so we got on board for a half hour trip. He was very nice, and took photos for us and offered some interesting information about Venice. It was a wonderful experience.

We eventually arrived at St Mark’s square. The walk took close to an hour from the station, but the sites along the way were so worth it. St. Mark’s square was packed full of people and pigeons. But it is such a spectacular open space. We spent some time walking around and taking in the sites.

After walking past the bridge of sighs, we started heading back, looking for somewhere to eat. We found a really nice restaurant on the edge of the Rio de l’Alboro canal, Ristorante Da Raffaele. The food was quite expensive, as with everywhere in Venice, but it was delicious and the location was fantastic.

We then caught the ferry back to the train station and caught the train for the short, one hour trip to Verona. From the station we caught a quick taxi ride to Piazza Bra, one of two main piazzas in Verona. It was stunning, and very surprising. Dominated by an ancient Roman theatre, the square is quite large and quite beautiful.

We then started walking the streets toward Juliet’s house. On the way, of course, we found a really nice gelateria. The courtyard in front of Juliet’s house was absolutely packed full of people. You could barely move.

I needed some good luck, so I waited in turn with everyone else to rub Juliet’s breast.

We then walked to the second big square, Piazza del Erbe. This was more of a market share. We walked through the markets, but then it started raining so we went to one of the restaurants in the square, Caffe Filippini, to have a drink and wait it out.

After about half an hour we headed back to Juliet’s house. It was much quieter so we were able to get some photos. Pe went up on to the balcony. It was nice.

We then headed back to Piazza Bra for a light dinner of bruschetta and pizza.

After a really busy and packed day, we got back to Milan after 9pm.
