The whole piazza was a buzz with people everywhere. It was also stiflingly hot. The baptistry doors, as ever, are so beautiful – Michelangelo said they were fit to be at the gates of paradise.
We then headed to the Piazza de la Segnora, the old square where the original statue of David stood. The statue of Cosimo de Medici takes centre place in the square.
We then wandered around the Uffizi before heading across the Ponte Vecchio.
It was getting late so we started heading back towards the hotel. We stopped at the Piazza de la Republica and had a drink at Caffe Poszlowski. Eventually, we headed back to our hotel to recover from the heat and get ready for dinner.
We picked a small restaurant, Ristorante Katti, in a gorgeous lane way, Via Faenza, that is lined with restaurants. Jana had a pesto, and Pe had a chicken. Chrissa had veal, while I had a steak. I was not impressed with the so-called Florentine specialty. But the atmosphere was wonderful. We topped the meal with a wonderful bottle of Chianti.
We then went for a stroll back to the Duomo. It was now about 9pm, and it was still light. The so called golden hour. The duomo glistened in the lighting.
Finally, exhausted, we headed back to our hotel after a very fulfilling day of sightseeing.
