We slept in today and packed for our move to Bern in Switzerland. The trip took four hours through the gorgeous Swiss countryside. We arrived in Bern just after 2pm, and after checking in to our hotel, we started exploring the old town. We headed first over the Kirchenfeldbrucke, past the Einstein museum and along the banks of the Aare River toward the bear park (Barengraben). The views were quite spectacular.
We stopped to see the bears, and had a drink and light Swiss lunch of salad and pretzels at the nearby Altes Tramdepot, a restaurant that had its own brewery. The beer they served was quite delicious.
We then headed up to the Rose garden with spectacular views overlooking Bern.
We then walked down over Nydeggbrucke, and into the old town. Bern is beautiful. The whole town is UNESCO world heritage listed, and the streets have decorative fountains everywhere. The Zytglogge also stands out as you walk up Kramgasse.
We walked for a few hours around the town just exploring, then after settling in to our hotel room, went out to dinner. We found a really nice restaurant, Restaurant und Cafe Rathaus, opposite the Rathouse (City Hall). It was run by a Turkish man who was really welcoming.
We had schnitzels and pork with chips. It was really nice – eating outside on the footpath at 9pm still takes some getting used to.
It was a very enjoyable day, exploring Bern.
