We arrived in Melbourne for our long weekend getaway, checked into our hotel, then headed out to explore some of Melbourne’s laneways. We ended up at Hardware Lane and our favourite wine bar, Kirk’s.
We ate a beautiful kefalogabriera saganaki, while enjoying a nice drink.
After changing for dinner, we caught an Uber to the casino and ended up at Nobu, a really nice modern Japanese restaurant. Dinner was wonderful. Pork belly and beef spare ribs were the highlights.
The next day we decided to head towards Oakleigh, a predominantly Greek suburb. We caught the train there, then walked to Eaton Street mall. We went into Vanilla, a Greek cafe and bakery. The sweets there were amazing.
After breakfast / morning tea, we caught a bus to Chadstone mall. Wow. This place is amazing. Every designer store you can think of and then some.
For dinner we went to Chin Chin, a modern Thai restaurant in Little Flinders Street. It was so busy there was a queue outside just to put our name down to wait. After about an hour we were seated. The food was delicious. The chicken wings were delicious, and the red chicken curry was fabulous.
The next day we caught an uber to Collingwood for breakfast at Terrortwilight, a trendy cafe in a trendy area. After breakfast we walked around Collingwood and Fitzroy before heading back to the city and the famous arcades. We wanted to go to Chappel Street South Yarra so we boarded a train out there. We walked to Burch and Purchess, a bakery Chrissa has been following for years. Their cakes are amazing. We then walked along Chappel Street, window shopping.
When we finished and bought our cakes, we headed back to the city. We were a little early for dinner so we walked across the road to a rooftop bar. The atmosphere was great.
For dinner we had booked Gazi, a Greek restaurant in Exhibition Street. Dinner again was fabulous, with the prawns a real standout.
After dinner we walked up Exhibition Street to Her Majesty’s theatre, where we bought tickets to Beautiful, the Carol King story. It was a wonderful store, with lots of great songs.
On the last day, we walked to Guildford Lane, a trendy laneway in the city. We had breakfast at krimper cafe. Food was again delicious.
It was a wonderful weekend getaway in Melbourne.
