Today we traveled to Milan. We caught the 11am train which got us to Milan before 1pm and we went straight to our hotel to check in. We then went to lunch at a local trattoria, Baldassatte Cafe, before heading to the city centre. The food was quite modern and American – hamburgers.
The walk to the city was quite long, and we chose to walk some shopping streets to have a look. The architecture of the city is beautiful, and a lot more modern than Florence.
We walked down Corso Buenos Aires, then turned into Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. The architecture here is stunning.
At the end of this mall is the Duomo. It is very impressive, and so different to Florence. It is Gothic in style and very decorative. the piazza out the front is also impressive, but the pigeons were everywhere.
We then walked to the adjacent Vittorio Emanuele II building. What a gorgeous building! We did the obligatory rotate of our heel in the Torino bull (a local custom that is said to be good luck). The galleria was full of high end shops, but it is the architecture that impresses the most. The girls, of course, had their daily gelato.
We then walked across the plaza and towards Castello Sforcezsca. The heat was stifling and we had been walking for hours, so we took our shoes off and dipped our feet in the fountain. It was so refreshing.
The old Castle is immaculately preserved, with mists and drawbridges and everything else you associate with castles. It was very enjoyable walking through, and onto Parco Sempione.
We finally walked back to the Piazza del Duomo, to Spazio Milano di Niko Romito, for a bite to eat and a drink while watching the people walking by. We had our first spot of rain while sitting down, but it only lasted about 20 minutes. The piazza had a wonderful buzz to it. When we finished we caught a cab back to the hotel.
