Today we caught the train from Berlin to Prague. We had booked an AirBnB near the station, but it wasn’t going to be ready until 8pm so we left our luggage at the luggage store at the Prague Main Station, then headed out to explore the city.
We walked passed our apartment and stumbled upon the Synagogue. It is beautifully ornate, and gave us our first glimpse of Prague architecture.
Celetna was full of tourists, and constantly buzzing. There were buskers everywhere and merchants trying to sell you things. It had almost an eastern feel to it.
We walked to the Old Town Square, which was packed full of people, and went to look at the Astronomical Clock on the Town Hall – but unfortunately it was being renovated and was under scaffold. The square was alive with people from everywhere.
We walked to the next square and found a seat in the middle of the square at Terasa U Prince, a bar and restaurant in Male (Little) Square. We ate some lunch and enjoyed a drink. I had my first taste of Czech beer, and it is delicious.
We then headed toward the river. We walked past the Clementinum and had a little look inside, then headed to Charles Bridge. Wow! This is seriously impressive.
We crossed the river and turned right towards the Franz Kafka museum. We walked down into the “Narrowest street of Prague”, which is so narrow that only one person can traverse at a time. And nearby we stopped to look at the Piss Sculpture and get some photos back towards the bridge. Prague really is a beautiful city.
We then walked back around under the bridge and headed to the Petrin Hill funicular.
After buying the tickets and getting into the car, we got to the top of Petrin Hill, but the rain that had been threatening all day, finally came down. We tried to wait it out, but it was no good. We eventually gave up and headed back down, and walked across Legii bridge and headed back towards the railway station.
We walked along Wenceslas Square looking for somewhere nice to have dinner, but it was raining too hard, and there was nowhere nice to sit and rest.
We eventually found I nice corner pub, Potrefená Husa Hybernská. Dinner was delicious. I had the Czech goulash, which was very tasty.
We finally went to the station to pick up our luggage and walked to the apartment.
