Today we were determined to get in to the Van Gogh museum, so we set off at 9am by Uber to Museumplein and joined the queue. The line was relatively short and we were inside before 10am. I had seen it when it first opened, but I did not remember it. What a wonderful museum. So magical. I loved it all over again.
After spending a good part of the morning there, we headed across the park to the I Amsterdam sign. The girls really wanted to get some photos.
We wanted to get out of Amsterdam for the afternoon, and so we went to the tourist office and found a tour of windmills and fishing villages. We bought tickets to the tour, then started walking back to Damrak where the bus was departing. We had time to kill, so we took our time heading back, and just exploring. We had lunch at a nice pub on the Singel, Calf & Bloom, and took some more photos of the flower markets. The bus departed at about 2pm, and headed to Zaanse Schans where there still had working windmills. They took us into one of the windmills and we spent some time exploring the beautiful scenery.
The tour then took us to Marken, an old fishing village where we visited a clog maker. the village was absolutely beautiful.
We then caught the ferry across the dam to Volendam. Here we were shown how they prepare cheese. Volendam was beautiful also, and we had time to explore and to have dinner.
Dinner was at Restaurant de Lunch on the marina. We shared seafood platters. It was delicious.
The bus then returned us to Amsterdam. It was a really enjoyable day, and a great idea to do the trip.
